Join the IRC for a conversation on book challenges in various settings. A book challenge is an attempt to remove or restrict access to materials, often in libraries and classrooms. A book ban is the actual removal of those items. In 2022, there were 2,571 unique titles challenged, according to the ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom. Reasons for these challenges span various themes; LGBTQIA+ content; sexually explicit content; equity, diversity, & inclusion content; etc. The IRC will talk with librarians and teachers about their experiences with challenges, how they respond, and how they can best serve the needs of the communities in which they work.

This will be a hybrid program. You may join us in-person on the second floor of the library or via Zoom. All registrants will receive a Zoom link.
