Inclusive Reading Club: Bending Toward Justice: Religion, Reparations, and Reconciliation

Inclusive Reading Club: Bending Toward Justice: Religion, Reparations, and Reconciliation Online

History reveals that many predominantly white American churches have long endorsed systems of structural racism and white supremacy through inaction or complicity, and even today, research (Robert P. Jones, 2020) indicates that many white Christians continue to deny the existence of structural racism. Some institutions and churches, however, are examining their role and responsibility in history and taking steps of reconciliation through the offering of reparations.

Join us in conversation with guest facilitators from the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life, Director MaryAnne Davey, and Assistant Director Amy Cady. We’ll look more deeply at calls for the Catholic Church to move toward reconciliation, inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement (Olga M. Segura, 2021), and explore the power of healing and reconciliation borne out of reparations offered by some churches and institutions.
