Faculty Lecture Series: Dr. Hyoyeun Jun "Effective Messaging During Health Crises: Unintended Effects and Barriers of Health and Risk Communication"

Join us for our second lecture of the McKillop Library Faculty Lecture series with Dr. Hyoyeun Jun, Assistant Professor of English, Communications, and Media. Dr. Jun applies both qualitative and quantitative methodology to understand the existing and upcoming barriers for health behavioral change. By presenting understudied barriers perceived by diverse demographic groups, Dr. Jun's research sheds light on effective health risk messaging strategies for governmental health agencies, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Dr. Hyoyeun Jun's scholarship combines work on crisis and risk communication, health communication, and science communication, from a public relations’ perspective, to provide effective and tailored messaging in situations where the public is experiencing crisis and risk. Her aim is to understand uncertainties faced by the public in crisis and to offer strategies for effective messaging to public relations practitioners in managing a crisis. Her work has been published in a number of flagship outlets, including Journal of Interactive Advertising, Journal of Public Relations Education, Journal of International Crisis and Risk Communication Research, and Public Relations Review. Dr. Jun won a top faculty paper award at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) Conference in 2021.
