MLK Week Community Read with the IRC (hybrid) Online
Join us in reading All that she carried: The journey of Ashley's sack, a Black family keepsake by Dr. Tiya Miles for the MLK Week Community Read. Miles, a renowned historian, traces the life a single object, an embroidered cloth sack, that was handed down through three generations of Black women. Through historical records and scant archives, Miles pieces together the stories of the lives of these three women, crafting "an extraordinary testament to people who are left out of the archives."
You are invited to read the entire book or a selection of readings from the book, the latter are accessible from the IRC's message board.
We'll be discussing this book on Thursday, Jan. 26th at 4 p.m. in DiStefano Lecture Hall in Antone Academic Center with special guest facilitator Dr. Ikea Johnson, Assistant Professor of English, Communications and Media. You may also join this event remotely; register to receive a Zoom link. For more information, visit the IRC's online message board.
